GADSDEN, Ala. -- The Covenant men's tennis team began its 2014 season on Saturday afternoon by dropping a 6-3 decision on the road at Gadsden State Community College.
Covenant will play its home opener next Saturday against Birmingham Southern. Gadsden State improves to 1-3 for the year with the victory.
The Scots received singles victories from the top three spots. Freshman Michael O'Brien dropped his first set against GSCC's Granger Surrett before coming back for a 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 11-9 win at the No. 1 singles position. Fellow freshman Frank Portlock took a win at the No. 2 spot with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Hayden Clowers, while Jonah Anderson notched a win at No. 3 over Jacob Mitchell 6-4, 6-3.
