LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The Covenant men's tennis team began the spring portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon against upstart Georgia Gwinnett. The Scots fell to the Grizzlies 9-0.
With a very young and largely inexperienced team, first year head coach John Hirte looks to begin rebuilding the program. Hirte was a four-year star at Covenant earning GSAC Player of the Year and NCCAA All-American honors last season.
The youthfulness of the team showed on Saturday as Covenant's Jeffrey Cox was the only player to win a set as he fell to Georgia Gwinnett's Theo Arruda 6-1, 6-1.
The men will now have a couple of weeks off from competition before they take on Hiwassee on Saturday, Feb. 16. The home match will take place at Chattanooga Christian School.
