  • Tennis Teams Receive NCCAA Honors

    The NCCAA announced its 2012 Tennis All-American teams last week and several members of Covenant's tennis teams were recognized for their efforts on and off the court. John Hirte earned first-team All-American honors while five other Scots, including Hirte, were named Scholar-Athletes. On the women's side, Kelsey Whitted earned Scholar-Athlete recognition as well.
  • Covenant Announces Hiring of John Hirte as Head Tennis Coach

    The Covenant College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of John Hirte as Head Tennis Coach. Hirte, who will graduate from Covenant later this week, played four years of varsity tennis and was named Great South Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year this season as he went undefeated in conference singles matches. Hirte will be the fifth head coach in the program's history.

    The Great South Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference teams for men's and women's tennis on Thursday. Covenant senior John Hirte was named men's Player of the Year, while Gretchen Rowe earned a spot on the women's All-Freshman team.
  • Tennis Teams Cruise to Victories to End Season

    The Covenant tennis teams ended the 2012 season on a positive note on Tuesday afternoon as both teams recorded wins over GSAC opponent LaGrange College. The men were victorious by a score of 7-2, while the women cruised to an 8-1 win.

    Despite John Hirte earning a singles victory and assisting in a doubles win, the Covenant Scots tennis team fell to Great South Athletic Conference member Piedmont College 7-2 on Thursday afternoon.

    The Covenant men's tennis team was defeated on the road by Berry College on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 7-2. With the loss, the Scots drop to 3-7 overall, while Berry improves to 4-8.
  • Covenant Netters Fall to Piedmont

    The Covenant tennis teams each suffered their second loss in as many days on Wednesday afternoon in Chattanooga. The Scots were defeated by GSAC rival Piedmont 7-2, while the Lady Scots were beaten 5-4 by Piedmont.
  • Hirte Wins GSAC Weekly Award

    The Great South Athletic Conference on Wednesday announced the weekly award winners for tennis and Covenant's John Hirte was recognized as the singles player of the week. This is the second time Hirte has been honored by the GSAC, but the first time for his singles play.

    Men's tennis player John Hirte and softball first baseman Courtney Wagoner have been named Covenant Players of the Week for the week of March 26-31. It is the second time this season that Hirte has been awarded this honor, while Wagoner is a first-time winner.

    After getting rained out on Friday at LaGrange, the Covenant tennis squads headed to Alabama to take on GSAC rival Huntingdon College. The Scots won two doubles matches, but ultimately fell 6-3, while the Lady Scots were defeated 7-2.

    Both the Covenant men's and women's tennis teams completed season sweeps of Great South Athletic Conference foe Maryville College on Wednesday afternoon. The men won their match 8-1, while the women won by a 6-3 score.

    The Great South Athletic Conference announced its weekly tennis awards on Wednesday and several Covenant athletes were honored for their performances last week. Anne Marie Rowe was honored as the women's singles player of the week, the doubles team of Madi Hyatt and Lauren Redberg are the women's doubles players of the week, while John Hirte and Jonathan Herberich are the men's doubles winners.
  • Covenant Tennis Teams Fall to Berry

    Both men's and women's tennis teams were in action on Tuesday with matches against Berry College in Chattanooga. The Covenant men fell to Berry 6-3 and the Berry women also beat the Covenant women by a 6-3 score.

    For the first time this season, the Covenant men's tennis squad was defeated in Great South Athletic Conference play as Huntingdon came away with a 6-3 win over the Scots on Saturday afternoon at The McCallie School in Chattanooga.

    The Covenant Scots and Lady Scots tennis teams began their seasons Saturday afternoon. Beginning their season off strong, the men’s team faced off against Maryville College and won 9-0. The women’s team also started the season with a win against Maryville College 9-0. Both Covenant teams are now 1-0 for the season, while Maryville is 0-1.
