  • Senior Garrett Reid and Junior Josh Jeremiah Selected As NCCAA All-Americans

    Covenant College's number one doubles duo was selected as first team All-Americans in the NCCAA, the association announced last week. Senior Garrett Reid and junior captain Josh Jeremiah went 13-7 as a doubles team during the 2010 season, including several wins against some of the nation's top teams.
  • Men’s Tennis Comes Up Short in National Tournament

    In their first appearance in any national tournament since the team began a handful of years ago, the Scots came up just two wins short of advancing to the bracket stage of this year's NCCAA national tennis championships. Proceeding to the knock-out stage would have given them a one in four chance of doing something no other Covenant team has done.

  • Covenant Tennis Teams End Season With Winning Records: Earn Bids To Nationals

    Rain Delays? Check. Cloudy Skies? Check. Last match of the regular season? Check. Indeed, on a Tuesday when the weather tried its best to put a damper on what has been a successful Scots' tennis season, players from both Covenant and King gutted out a multi-hour delay in order to play in the last match of the year. So, with courts squeegeed dry, clouds moved on, and rain falling less frequently than it had been earlier in the day, the matches finally got underway around 4:30 with doubles play coming first.

    The Covenant men's tennis team won an exciting match today against Berry College by a score of 5-4. The victory keeps their perfect home record alive and improves their overall record to 7-3.
  • Shibley, Sizemore, and Case Secure Victory for Lady Scots

    Tuesday evening, Covenant's tennis teams faced off against Tennessee Wesleyan College, and although the ladies began slow, wins at #4, #5, and #6 singles helped propel Covenant to a 6-3 victory and a 4-4 record on the year. Covenant took two of the three doubles to start the day, but a commanding win at #1 singles and a three-set win at #3 gave the Lady Bulldogs (0-6, 0-1 AAC) the opportunity to come back.
  • Men’s Doubles and Women’s Singles Help Covenant Dominate University of the Cumberlands

    Covenant's tennis teams improved on their seasons Monday evening by taking wins over the University of the Cumberlands. The men's match started out with a sweep of all three doubles to give Covenant a 3-0 lead going into singles. The singles spots won were #3 John Hirte, with an easy victory of 6-2, 6-1, #4 Stephen Woody at 7-5, 6-1, and #6 Brandon Snipes with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. The University of the Cumberlands won at #1, #2 and a tough match at #5 with John Hill defeating Johnny Herberich in a close, third set breaker: 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5).
  • Scots and Lady Scots Lose at Lee University

    Covenant's tennis teams traveled the short distance to Cleveland, Tennessee on Friday to face a familiar foe in Lee University. Despite a 9-0 loss for the women and an 8-1 loss for the men, the match was closer than the final score indicates.
  • Covenant Men's and Women's Tennis Opens With a Bang!

    Covenant's tennis teams started the spring season this afternoon with two commanding victories over the visiting Panthers of LaGrange College. The men's 9-0 win saw some impressive debuts by freshmen Stephen Woody at #2 singles and Tom Yates at #5 Singles. Senior Garrett Reid had the toughest match at #1, but his fitness and experience helped him manage a come-from-behind win. Sophomore Andy Jones played very well at #6 as did junior Brandon Snipes at #4.
