MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's soccer team held off Randolph, 3-2, on Friday night at the Maryville College Bicentennial Kick-Off Classic.
The Scots were able to add on with a Keegan Weekley goal off a deflected pass in the 31st minute to push the lead to two.
With under 36 minutes left in the match, Covenant (1-0-0) was able to take advantage of a corner from Brower as Jesse Riggs played it into the box and found Mercer Stout who put it in the back of the net to stretch the lead to three.
Randolph (0-1-0) responded with a goal of their own with by Gabe Krueger with 23:11 to go in the match to make the score 3-1.
The Scots then appeared to extend the lead back to three with just over 21 minutes remaining but the goal was called off as the Scots were ruled to be in an offside position.
Randolph took advantage of a free-kick as Kreuger had a shot off the post but the WildCats were able to keep possession before Kreuger found the back of the net with 3:01 left.
Covenant was able to hold Randolph off the rest of the match with the only shot coming by Evan Blow in the waning minutes soared high.
Paul Lemay got the start and went the complete game in goal for the Scots. Lemay was able to record three saves on 15 shots for the win.
Erick Cortez-Martine went the full 90 for the WildCats, recording five saves while allowing three goals on 17 shots in the contest.
The Scots outshot Randolph, 17-15, while also holding a slight advantage in corner kicks, 9-5.
Covenant wraps up play in the classic against Southern Virginia on Saturday at 2 p.m.
