FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant men's soccer freshman Jake Major has been named the USA South Rookie of the Week for the period ending on Oct. 25, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.
The honor is the first career weekly award for Major. It is the second time this season that a Scot has earned a USA South weekly honor, joining Jonathan Crossman who was named the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11.
This week's award period ended with the regular season finales on Oct. 25. Tournament matches were not counted in the voting process.
A freshman from Dacula, Ga., Major scored his first two career goals in the Scots' 9-0 victory over Berea last Wednesday. Major notched his first collegiate goal in the 86th minute and then collected his second career goal just over a minute later in the 87th to cap the rout of the visiting Mountaineers.
Major's play helped Covenant end the regular season on a high note and the Scots took that momentum into Saturday's 3-0 USA South Tournament quarterfinal win at Piedmont. Covenant, the No. 3 West seed, will face No. 1 East seed North Carolina Wesleyan in a USA South Tournament semifinal on Friday, Nov. 3 at 12 p.m. in Rocky Mount, N.C.
