FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- After a pair of shutouts last week, Covenant men's soccer senior goalkeeper Jonathan Crossman was named USA South Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Sept. 10, 2017, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.

The weekly honor is the first of Crossman's career. It also marks the first time since 2013 that a Covenant player has collected the award.

A senior from Lookout Mountain, Ga., Crossman helped the Scots to a 2-1 week by producing two shutouts and allowing just one goal. In 270 total minutes at the net, Crossman made 12 saves on 13 shots faced. He had three saves in a 1-0 victory over Sewanee last Wednesday before tallying two saves in a 1-0 win at Belhaven on Friday. In Saturday's 1-0 loss at Millsaps, Crossman made seven saves.

Crossman currently ranks fifth in the USA South with a 0.98 goals against average and is second in save percentage at .839. Additionally, his two shutouts are tied for first in the conference.

Covenant (2-3) will be back on the pitch on Friday as the Scots open up USA South play against N.C. Wesleyan. Match time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
