JACKSON, Miss. -- The Covenant men's soccer team could not extend their winning streak to three matches as host Millsaps earned a 1-0 victory on Saturday night in Jackson.

The loss snaps a two-match win streak for Covenant (2-3). Millsaps improves to 2-1-1 overall on the year.

The Scots shutout streak also came to an end at 229 minutes. Covenant had not allowed a goal since last Saturday's loss against Eastern Mennonite. The match was the third in four days for Covenant, and all three contests were decided by 1-0 scores.

Millsaps scored the lone goal of the night in the 50th minute when the Majors' Gabriel Ryce opened the game's scoring with his first goal of the season. Jeff Owens recorded the assist on the play, which was also his first of the season.

Covenant's best chances to score came in the 55th minute. Isaac Johnson and Ethan Pettit had shots on target within 12 seconds of each other, but Millsaps keeper Alfie Miller made the save on each to preserve the Majors' lead.

The shots were in Millsaps' favor, as it posted a 14-5 advantage. Jonathan Crossman had another strong outing as he made seven saves for the Scots. Crossman has allowed just one goal over the last three matches.

Pettit led Covenant with two shot attempts on the night.

Miller made two saves for Millsaps. Alex Bourland led all players with five shots taken, three of which were on target.

The Scots will return home to Scotland Yard on Friday, Sept. 15 to face off against N.C. Wesleyan in the USA South opener. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.
