Greensboro Defeats Men's Soccer in USA South Quarterfinal

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- No. 3 seeded Greensboro scored three second half goals to pull away from the Covenant men's soccer team and take a 3-0 victory in the USA South Tournament quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon.

Covenant, the tournament's No. 6 seed, finishes the year with a 5-11-2 overall record. Greensboro (12-5) will move on to the semifinal round of the tournament next Friday.

After a scoreless first half of play, Greensboro scored in the 56th minute off the foot of Carlos Barragan, assisted by Gerardo Peraza, to take a 1-0 lead. In the 60th minute, it was Mike Tzavlas scoring to put the host Pride ahead 2-0. The scoring was capped in the 80th minute with a goal from Cole Watkins.

Covenant had a couple of shots on goal in the second half, but Greensboro keeper Jaime Payamps made saves on both attempts to keep the Scots off the scoreboard.

Covenant keeper Jonathan Crossman made four saves. Henry Paris, Nate Mackey and Carl Simakoff each took one shot.
