Mackey Named to USA South All-Sportsmanship Team

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant men's soccer junior midfielder Nate Mackey was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship team, as the conference announced its postseason awards on Friday morning.

All awards are voted on by the men's soccer coach at each institution. Caleb Lucas of Maryville was named the conference's Player of the Year, while Maryville's Pepe Fernandez was the Coach of the Year. North Carolina Wesleyan freshman Baboucarr Njie was selected the Rookie of the Year.

Mackey, a junior from Rutherfordton, N.C., was the Scots' representative on the All-Sportsmanship team. A team captain, Mackey has played and started in all 17 matches this year. He has one goal on the year, coming in the season-opener against Berry.


Covenant will open the USA South Tournament as the No. 6 seed on Saturday at No. 3 seeded Greensboro. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
