Scots Outlast William Peace for First Win of the Season

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's soccer team earned their first win of the season on the Saturday of Homecoming Weekend, defeating William Peace 1-0 at Scotland Yard.

The Scots are now 1-4-1 on the season, 1-1 in USA South play. The Pacers are now 3-3-1, losing their second USA South match to drop to 0-2 in conference play.

The only goal of the match came in the 43rd minute, as Covenant sophomore Carl Simakoff headed the ball into the net off of a free kick by Caleb Allen. Simakoff has now scored two goals over the past two matches, his first two of the season. The assist was Allen's first of the season.

Simakoff had three of Covenant's eight shots on goal, and Isaac Johnson and Josh Brower had two apiece. Allen also put a shot on target. The Scots outshot the Pacers 17-9, with William Peace only directing two shots towards the goal.

Scots keeper Jonathan Crossman played the entire match, making two saves during the shutout, improving to 1-3 on the season. Pacers keeper Christian Ortiz also was in the goal for the duration of the match, making seven saves and allowing one goal. He is now 3-3-1.


The Scots will be on the road over the next two weeks and are set to play N.C. Wesleyan on Friday, Sept. 23. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m.
