FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant men's soccer seniors Mike Arango and Noah Wiersema collected USA South postseason awards, announced the conference on Wednesday. Arango was an honorable mention choice, while Wiersema was Covenant's representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.
Arango, a senior from Coral Springs, Fla., came on strong in the second half of the year. The senior tallied all five of his goals on the year in the final seven matches. His five goals led Covenant and were a career-high for a season. Arango also tallied one assist on the year. It is his first all-conference honor. Arango finished his Covenant career with 12 goals and seven assists in three seasons after transferring from Gettysburg College.
Wiersema, a senior from Elizabethtown, Ky., posted four goals, tied for second-most on the team, with one assist on the year. The senior was also 2-for-2 in penalty kicks and had the game-winner in a 2-1 victory at Ferrum. Wiersema wrapped up his collegiate career with 11 goals and nine assists in 77 matches.
USA South regular season champion Greensboro picked up the three major awards in the conference. Shaun Watt was named the Player of the Year, while Carlos Barragan was the Rookie of the Year. Head coach Tony Falvino collected Coach of the Year honors.
Covenant ended its season with a 5-11-2 overall record and an appearance in the USA South Tournament.
