DANVILLE, Va. -- Mike Arango's goal in the 10th minute held up as the Covenant men's soccer team edged Averett 1-0 in USA South play Friday evening at Daly Field.

Arango's goal developed off a 60-yard goal kick that was headed forward by Carl Simakoff. Arango collected the ball and chipped a shot past the Averett keeper, who was coming to challenge from 22 yards out.

Covenant's defense thwarted Averett's attacks throughout the game as the Cougars outshot the Scots 25-9. Daniel Kubin made a career-best 10 saves in goal to help Covenant improve to 4-9-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the USA South. Averett dropped to 5-10-0 and 4-4-0 in league play.

Noah Wiersema, Arango and Isaac Johnson each had a team-high two shots.
