KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its college and high school soccer program Team Academic awards on Wednesday and both Covenant programs were recognized.
Covenant was one of 208 institutions that had both men's and women's programs recognized. Additionally, Covenant was one of two USA South members, along with Piedmont, to have both programs earn distinction.
A total of 859 college soccer teams (305 men, 554 women) posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2014-15 academic year. The men's program, under head coach Nathan Pifer, posted a team GPA of 3.0 while the women, under the direction of Mark Duble, accumulated a team GPA of 3.31.
This is the seventh straight year the men's program has been recognized and the 13th overall since the award's inception in 1996. The women have been honored 10 times since 1999.
Both Covenant teams will be on the road this weekend in USA South play. The trip starts on Friday at Greensboro (women at 2 p.m., men at 4 p.m.).
