LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Two second half goals from Belhaven lifted the visiting Blazers to a 2-1 victory over the Covenant men's soccer team on a chilly Saturday night at Scotland Yard.
Covenant took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but could not hold the lead as the Scots drop their third straight match to fall to 1-3 overall. Belhaven remains perfect at 3-0 on the year.
The Scots found the back of the net in the 27th minute. Russell Harrison's free kick from just inside the midfield stripe found Isaac Johnson in the box and Johnson headed the ball past Belhaven keeper Ben Schaefer to put Covenant ahead 1-0. The goal for Johnson was his second of the year, while Harrison picked up his first assist.
Covenant had another couple of good opportunities before the half ended, but could not put a shot on goal. The Scots outshot the Blazers 7-6 in the opening period.
Belhaven picked up the pressure in the second half and found the equalizer in the 53rd minute. Lucas Talaveira-Befi intercepted a pass and worked to the top of the 18-yard box before putting his shot past Scots keeper Daniel Kubin to knot the score at 1-1.
Talaveira-Befi was also involved in the game-winner as he slotted a pass to Cillian Thompson who worked past one defender before scoring his first goal of the year and giving the Blazers a 2-1 lead in the 85th minute.
Kubin made seven saves for the Scots in the loss, while Schaefer did not record a save. Belhaven outshot Covenant 12-10 and had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks. Each team was issued two yellow cards and the teams combined for 32 fouls.
Covenant will try and snap its losing skid when it hosts Birmingham Southern on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at Scotland Yard. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
