LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The 2015 Covenant men's soccer schedule has been released. 17 matches will greet the defending USA South Tournament champions with seven of those scheduled to be played at Scotland Yard.
Head coach Nathan Pifer, entering his seventh year, has again put together a challenging non-conference slate to go along with 10 USA South contests.
Covenant will open the season with a home match against Sewanee on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. before taking to the road for the Maryville College Fall Classic.
At Maryville, the Scots will face Montclair State on Sept. 4 in the first-ever meeting between the schools. Montclair State is a perennial regional and national power that has made the NCAA Tournament in nine straight seasons. On Saturday, Sept. 5, Covenant will take on Centre to conclude the classic.
After returning, Covenant will host Belhaven (Sept. 12) and Birmingham Southern (Sept. 16) before traveling to Jackson, Miss., for a tilt with Millsaps on Sept. 19. Covenant will finish non-conference action at Berry on Oct. 5.
USA South play opens on Sept. 25 at Greensboro and continues on Sept. 26 at Ferrum. Piedmont comes to Lookout Mountain on Sept. 30.
October is highlighted by Homecoming on Oct. 9-10. The Scots host North Carolina Wesleyan on Oct. 9 followed by Methodist on Oct. 10. The final home match of the regular season is set for Oct. 28 against Maryville.
The USA South Tournament will run from Oct. 31-Nov. 7 and will include the top eight teams in the final conference standings.
- Belhaven's trip to Lookout Mountain will be the first since 2008. Covenant is 2-3-2 against the Blazers since 1983. Belhaven is in the process of transitioning from the NAIA to NCAA Division III.
- Montclair State is the only opponent on the schedule that Covenant has never faced.
- Covenant is undefeated all-time against LaGrange (7-0).
