MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Snoopy Davidson continued his torrid stretch of play with two goals and the Covenant men's soccer team held off a late N.C. Wesleyan rally to win 2-1 in the USA South Tournament semifinal match.

Covenant (14-4-2) wins for the seventh straight time and will advance to the USA South championship on Saturday against rival Maryville at 2 p.m. in Martinsville. It will be Covenant's first trip to a conference tournament final since 2008 when the Scots were members of the NAIA.

The Scots and Maryville met earlier this season at Maryville and played to a 0-0 draw. Covenant has not beaten the northern Scots in the teams' last two meetings. Covenant last beat Maryville in 2012.

Davidson, the USA South Player of the Year, lived up to the highest individual honor in the conference with two scores on Friday. The senior from Rome, Ga., scored his first goal in the 17th minute, assisted by Mike Arango, and gave the Scots a 2-0 lead in the 79th minute. Davidson leads the team and the USA South with 12 goals on the year. Davidson has scored at least one goal in the last six matches and has eight total during that stretch.

After Davidson's second score, N.C. Wesleyan answered almost immediately with a goal of its own 23 seconds later. Caetano Viegas cut the Scots' lead to 2-1 with a goal and the Bishops had a few other chances late. However, the Covenant defense and keeper Daniel Kubin preserved the one-goal victory.

Kubin had a pair of saves for the Scots in the win. N.C. Wesleyan keeper Jesper Olsson made six saves for the Bishops as Covenant outshot them 14-12 overall. N.C. Wesleyan finishes the year with a 13-6-1 overall record.
