Friesen, Davidson Voted to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Men's soccer seniors Joel Friesen and Snoopy Davidson were both voted to the Capital One Academic All-District team presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced the organization on Thursday.

Both student-athletes will now be entered into the Academic All-America voting which begins next week. Friesen and Davidson become the second and third honorees for the men's soccer program over the last two years. Shuler Polk was Academic All-District in 2013.

In order to be nominated for this award, players must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and be a significant contributor to their team. The ballot is then voted on by various Sports Information personnel within the district.

Friesen, a senior from Waxhaw, N.C., has had a career season with seven goals and three assists. Three of his goals are game-winners coming against Rutgers-Newark, Berry and Huntingdon. Friesen tallied his first career hat trick in Covenant's 3-1 win over Rutgers-Newark in the season opener. He has been named USA South Player of the Week twice this season (Sept. 1, Sept. 29).

In the classroom, Friesen has a GPA of 3.71 while majoring in Community Development with a minor in Economics. He was a member of the USA South All-Academic team in 2013-14 and has been on the Dean's List and Athletic Honor Roll multiple times.

Davidson, a senior from Rome, Ga., has also put together an outstanding season for the Scots. Despite missing five matches, Davidson leads the team in goals scored (9) and assists (6) and is tied for second in the USA South in total points with 24. The senior has produced a pair of two-goal matches this season and has a current streak of four straight games with at least one goal. He was named USA South Player of the Week on Oct. 27.

Davidson is majoring in Economics and has an overall GPA of 3.71. He has been on Covenant's Dean's List and Athletic Honor Roll in each of his first two semesters. Davidson was also a member of the USA South All-Academic team in 2013-14.

Covenant (12-4-2, 8-1-1 USA South) will open the USA South Tournament on Saturday at home against Piedmont. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m. Click here for more details
