LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN – Playing at the Shadowlands because of a rain-drenched Scotland Yard, the Covenant men's soccer team played Oglethorpe to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night.
Both teams' first tied match of the season left the Scots at 3-2-1, while Oglethorpe moves to 4-3-1.
The first half saw very little action, as both teams combined for only two shots on goal, both by Covenant. Overall, the Scots outshot the Petrels 6-2 in the first period.
The pace of the match picked up in the second half as Oglethorpe outshot Covenant 10-8, but it wasn't until the 70th minute that the Petrels notched the first tally on a goal by Nick Muntean. Muntean's score was off a free kick that he got past Scots keeper Daniel Kubin to put Oglethorpe up 1-0.
From there, the two teams played scoreless soccer for the next two 10-minute overtime periods, though Oglethorpe was able to muster three shots on goal during the second overtime.
Covenant's Kubin played the entire match, making eight saves, while Moore made six for Oglethorpe.
The Scots will open their USA South schedule at 2 p.m. on Friday at Scotland Yard against Greensboro.
