LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- After one half of soccer, things did not look good for the Covenant men's soccer team. The second half was a completely different story.

Trailing 2-0 entering halftime, Covenant (2-1) rallied with three scores in the second period to knock off visiting Millsaps 3-2 in the final match of the David Taaffe Invitational.

Ian Meredith completed the comeback as he produced the game-winner in the 85th minute of play, off an assist from Joel Friesen. Meredith placed the ball perfectly under the diving attempt of Millsaps keeper Johnathan Huebbe. The goal was Meredith's second in as many nights and second of the year.

Entering the second half trailing by two goals, Mike Arango found the back of the net off a ricochet from a Meredith shot. Meredith's attempt hit the crossbar and deflected right to Arango who put the ball away for his first score of the season in the 50th minute. Covenant got the equalizer in the 75th minute when Snoopy Davidson collected his first goal of the year off a corner kick from Noah Wiersema.

Covenant dominated the second half of play as they outshot the Majors 15-5 in the period. Daniel Kubin made two saves in the second half to keep Millsaps off the board.

Millsaps (3-1) grabbed a lead in the 22nd minute when Javier Garcia took a pass from Lukas Elmhammar and got his shot past Kubin to make it 1-0. In the 32nd minute, it was Elmhammar who took a deflected ball in the box and drove it home for a 2-0 advantage.

Millsaps' Huebbe made two saves on the night.

Covenant will be on the road next Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Emory in Atlanta, Georgia. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
