LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- On a muggy night and a rain-soaked Scotland Yard, the Covenant men's soccer team opened its home schedule by hosting the David Taaffe Invitational. The Scots faced Wilmington on Friday night and the visiting Quakers used a goal from Alex Ruckman in the 62nd minute to take a 2-1 victory.

Covenant falls for the first time this season and now stands at 1-1. Wilmington improves to 2-1.

Wilmington got on the board first early in the opening period as Evan Schlagetter headed in a ball from teammate Nick Toney giving the Quakers a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play. Covenant would settle down and have a 7-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but could not find the back of the net.

The Scots found the equalizer early in the second half as Ian Meredith recorded his first score of the season in the 52nd minute, off an assist from Mike Arango. Covenant would have several other good looks at the net throughout the period, but could not capitalize.

Wilmington took the lead for good in the 62nd minute when Ruckman chipped the ball past Covenant keeper Daniel Kubin for a 2-1 Quakers lead.

Kubin made four saves on the night, while his counterpart Daniel Wicks made five. Meredith and Snoopy Davidson each had three shots to lead the Scots.

Covenant will wrap up the David Taaffe Invitational on Saturday by hosting Millsaps at 7 p.m. after the conclusion of Wilmington and Maryville on Scotland Yard.
