LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's soccer program, under sixth-year head coach Nathan Pifer, has announced its 2014 schedule. The Scots will play 19 regular season contests, including 10 home matches.
The 2014 season will kick-off on Aug. 29-30 at the Sonny Carter Invitational hosted by Emory in Atlanta, Georgia. The Scots will face Rutgers-Newark on Aug. 29 followed by a tilt with Centre a day later.
Covenant opens the home portion of its schedule on Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 as they host the Covenant College Invitational at Scotland Yard. The invitational will feature Wilmington, Millsaps, Maryville and host Covenant. Two matches will be played each day starting on Friday at 5 p.m. with Maryville and Millsaps followed by Covenant and Wilmington at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Wilmington will take on Maryville at 5 p.m. and the Scots will meet with Millsaps at 7 p.m.
Other non-conference opponents include Emory (Sept. 10), Sewanee (Sept. 12), Oglethorpe (Sept. 16), Berry (Sept. 23) and Birmingham Southern (Sept. 27).
USA South play opens on Friday, Sept. 19 with a home contest with defending conference champion Greensboro at 2 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Scots will face Ferrum to wrap up the weekend set of contests.
Homecoming is slated for Oct. 4 as the Scots will face USA South foe LaGrange at 7 p.m. Covenant will play three of its final four conference matches at home against Huntingdon (Oct. 15), Averett (Oct. 24) and newcomer William Peace (Oct. 25).
- Covenant will be facing Millsaps, Rutgers-Newark and William Peace for the first time in 2014.
- The only other previous meeting with Wilmington came at the 1986 NAIA national tournament which ended in a 0-0 draw.
- Covenant is unbeaten against USA South foes Ferrum (1-0), LaGrange (6-0), Methodist (2-0-1), N.C. Wesleyan (1-0) and Piedmont (7-0).
