It was Homecoming weekend on the campus of Covenant College this weekend as past Scots came back to reunite on their old stomping grounds. Over 1,200 fans were in attendance for Saturday night's men's soccer match. It was a very successful week for all Covenant teams as women's soccer and volleyball each went 2-0 while the men's soccer team went 2-0-1. Cross country had the week off.
BY THE NUMBERS:
5: The number of goals for men's soccer junior Snoopy Davidson for the week. In one of the best individual performances over the course of a week in recent memory for a Scots player, Davidson tallied five goals and three assists in three matches. He capped his stellar week with two goals and three assists on Saturday night giving Covenant a 5-1 win over North Carolina Wesleyan.
Oct. 9, 2010: The last time a Covenant men's soccer player had at least two goals and two assists in the same match before Davidson did it on Saturday. Julian Allgeier had two goals and two assists in a 5-0 Homecoming win over LaGrange on this date.
8-0-1: Men's soccer record when scoring two or more goals this season. Covenant scored at least two goals in all three matches this week in two victories and a draw. The Scots are 0-4-2 when scoring less than two goals.
323:17: The number of game minutes since the women's soccer team last allowed a goal. Hannah Bales and Lucy Johnson have combined for three consecutive shutouts and the Lady Scots last allowed an opponent to score on Oct. 2.
2: Number of goals scored by the women's soccer team this week. Covenant only scored twice but made both goals stand up as they claimed back-to-back 1-0 victories. Jessica Rowe had the game-winning score in the second overtime on Friday against Methodist and Bethany Logan notched the lone goal in Saturday's win over North Carolina Wesleyan.
9: Number of double-doubles this season for volleyball junior Stephanie Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick added to her total with 35 assists and 18 digs in a four set win over Greensboro on Saturday.
.455: The hitting percentage of volleyball sophomore Hannah Rogers in Covenant's 3-0 win over Mary Baldwin on Saturday. It was the second highest percentage of the year for Covenant. Rogers had five kills on 11 total attacks while not committing an error to go along with two service aces and two block assists.
Men's and women's soccer play just one match each this week as the teams travel to Huntingdon on Wednesday afternoon... Volleyball has a tough schedule at home this week as they host rival Maryville on Tuesday (7 p.m.) and N.C. Wesleyan and William Peace on Saturday... Both soccer teams now sit inside the top four of their respective USA South standings, while volleyball sits in third in their division...
