LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's soccer team has cracked the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) South Atlantic regional rankings at No. 10 this week. The region ranking is the first for the program since it became an NCAA Division III member.
Head coach Nathan Pifer's squad went 2-1 last week with victories over previously unbeaten, and regionally-ranked, Birmingham Southern and at Ferrum in conference play. Birmingham Southern dropped out of the rankings after the loss to Covenant last week. The Scots stand at 5-2-2 on the year and 1-1 in USA South play.
"It's nice to be recognized but it's only a baby step in the direction of the goals we as a team have set for ourselves," said Pifer. "We have a lot of work ahead of us and we look forward to the competition."
Covenant is the only USA South school listed in the poll. Rutgers-Camden (9-0) tops the poll and is also ranked No. 3 in the country by the NSCAA.
