FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Junior midfielder Joel Friesen has been named USA South Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, announced the league on Monday afternoon.
Friesen joins teammate Shuler Polk as the two Scots to earn a USA South weekly honor this season for men's soccer and the sixth overall for the school.
The junior from Waxhaw, N.C., put together a stellar week for the Scots as he compiled six points on two goals and two assists to lead Covenant to a 2-1 record. Friesen scored the first goal in the 50th minute of Covenant's 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Birmingham Southern on Tuesday. After being held scoreless in a loss at Greensboro on Friday, Friesen had the game-winning goal in the 19th minute to go along with two assists in the Scots' 4-1 road conference win over Ferrum.
