Men's Soccer Releases 2013 Schedule

Schedule
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Head men's soccer coach Nathan Pifer has announced his schedule for the 2013 season. All told, Covenant will play 19 regular season contests, with eight at Scotland Yard, and nine conference matches.

The season will begin unofficially on August 23 when the Scots host Trevecca Nazarene in a scrimmage. The following week on the 30th, the Scots will open the regular season at Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga.

The first home match is set for September 3 against SAA-member Sewanee at 8 p.m. The Scots will then hit the road for the next three matches beginning with a trip to Kentucky where they will take on Transylvania and Hanover. After a bout with Berry on September 10 in Rome, Ga., Covenant returns home to face Centre and Birmingham Southern on the 13th and 18th, respectively.

The final non-conference match of the regular season will feature Emory coming to Scotland Yard on October 23 at 7 p.m.

"I have scheduled all the toughest non conference opponents in the area and feel our team is ready to be a contender," said Pifer, who will enter his fifth year with the program and is just seven wins away from career coaching win No. 250.

USA South Conference play gets underway on September 20 as the Scots travel to Greensboro and then Ferrum on consecutive days.

The Battle for the Highland Cup Trophy against Maryville is scheduled for October 2 at 7 p.m. at Scotland Yard in what will be a conference match.

Homecoming weekend will feature two matches as Covenant will host conference foe Methodist on Friday, October 11 at 7 p.m. The following night at 7 p.m., North Carolina Wesleyan comes to the Mountain.

USA South Conference tournament action gets started on November 1 at the higher seeded opponent. Only the top eight teams in the final conference standings are able to participate in the tournament. After the tournament field is narrowed to four, matches will be moved to Martinsville, Va., on November 8-9.

"Our new conference will be much more competitive and a challenge for us next season. I am excited to be competing for a chance at the NCAA tournament," added Pifer.

Should Covenant qualify for NCAA tournament play, that will begin on November 16.

Live stats and video will once again be made available for home matches.
