JACKSON, Tenn. -- In a tough, competitive match, the Covenant men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Union Bulldogs in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Championship match on Saturday night.
With the loss, the 2012 season comes to an end for the Scots. Covenant was looking to get back to the NCCAA National Tournament for first time since 2010 with a win. Union clinches a berth in the national tournament with the victory.
Alex Pratt's goal in the 44th minute of play gave the Bulldogs all the scoring they needed on the night. Brian Castro assisted the Pratt score.
Covenant had one of its best chances to knot the score late in the second half. Union keeper Rainer Pires came forward on a cross, but was beat to the ball by Covenant's Tyler Morrison. Morrison attempted a shot but it went just wide of the net.
The Scots were outshot 13-10, but both teams had four shots on goal. Both teams were competitive in the championship bout as they combined for 27 fouls and three yellow cards. Each team also took three corner kicks.
Union (11-3-4) had three players take three shots each. Pires recorded four saves in the win.
