JACKSON, Tenn. -- Matt Hudnut scored two goals to lead the Covenant men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Campbellsville University in the NCCAA Mid-East Region semifinal match on Friday afternoon in Jackson.
With the win, Covenant moves to the championship match against either Union (Tenn.) or Tennessee Temple tomorrow night at 6 p.m. A Covenant win tomorrow will clinch a berth in the NCCAA National Tournament on November 28-December 1. The Scots last went to the national tournament in 2010.
Campbellsville got on the board first with a goal from Roraigh Yearwood in the fourth minute of play. But the Scots responded less than a minute later as Garrison Dale found the back of the net off a Hudnut assist to tie the match at 1-1.
Hudnut then scored a goal of his own in the 25th minute to give Covenant (10-9-1) a lead they would not relinquish.
In the second half, Tyler Morrison scored in the 48th minute to make it 3-1 and Hudnut added his second score of the match in the 74th minute to cap the scoring.
Campbellsville outshot the Scots 19-12, but the Scots made the most of their opportunities as they had seven of their shots on goal. Keeper Shuler Polk made seven saves, while his counterpart Mac Malachiyev made three saves for Campbellsville.
