LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Oglethorpe University used three second half goals to propel them to a 3-1 victory over Covenant on Wednesday night at Scotland Yard on Lookout Mountain. The loss for the Scots snaps their three-game winning streak.
After a scoreless half, the Petrels scored within the first minute of the second half on a goal by Carlos Gaston from the right side of the box. Gaston then put the Petrels up 2-0 with a score in the 51st minute.
The Scots fought back and Hunter Harrison managed to score the only Covenant goal from just outside the box in the 68th minute off a deflected pass. Harrison's goal made the score 2-1. But 10 minutes later after getting past Covenant defense, Gaston comes back to score his third goal of the night to finalize the score of the match.
Oglethorpe led the game in shots with 17 shots while Covenant took 12 the entire match. Matt Hudnut and Chris Pifer each took three shots, with two of Hudnut's shots on goal. Harrison, Tyler Morrison, and David Taaffe took two shots apiece.
Covenant keeper Shuler Polk made three saves out of the three shots on goal for the game. Oglethorpe keeper Frank Petersen made five saves for the Petrels.
The Scots face-off on Saturday, September 29 against the Huntingdon College Hawks at 4 p.m. at Scotland Yard.
