DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Covenant Scots continued their trip in Kentucky to play their second game in the 23rd Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic against the Spalding University Golden Eagles. The Scots came out on top against Spalding 3-0 to earn their first victory of the season.
The Scots (1-3) started off with a goal in the 12th minute by Ian Meredith that was assisted by Tyler Morrison. Morrison soon got his chance to score in the 37th minute and he made the most of it by placing the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0.
In the second half, following a yellow card on Spalding, Chris Pifer was given a penalty kick and came through with the score to put the Scots up 3-0.
Covenant goalkeeper Shuler Polk saved the three shots on goal from Spalding. Spalding keeper Logan Spencer also saved three shots on goal and allowed three goals.The Scots outshot Splading 24-10, 6-3 in shots on goal, and 9-5 in corner kicks.
Morrison and Pifer led the Scots with five shots and one goal each. Roy Anderson also attempted a shot on goal.
Covenant travels again on Thursday, September 13th to play the Berry College Vikings at Mount Berry, Ga. at 5:00 p.m. The Scots open up their home schedule on Saturday, September 15 against Truett-McConnell at 7:00 p.m.
