LANCASTER, Pa. --- The Covenant Scots continued on their trip to Pennsylvania as they faced the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats. The Scots fell to the Diplomats 1-0 on a goal scored early on in the match. The Scots fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Diplomats improve to 2-0.
The Diplomats took the lead early on in the first half. Ben Beaver managed to put the ball inside the far post off a left-footed strike that was assisted by Jared Bomba in the 3rd minute. Covenant had one of its best chances to score in the 39th minute when Matt Hudnut had his shot hit the post and David Taaffe followed that up with a shot that was saved by Franklin & Marshall keeper TJ White.
The Scots had difficulty getting anything by the Diplomats' White as he had six saves on the night. Covenant was outshot 14-12, but had as many corner kicks (6) as Franklin & Marshall. The Scots also picked up four yellow cards.
Covenant keeper Shuler Polk managed to save six out of the seven shots on goal after 90 minutes of playing time.
The Scots travel again next weekend on September 7 to play Centre College at 8 p.m. in the 23rd Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic in Danville, Ky.
