Scots Continue Their Winning Ways with 2-1 Victory Over Union College

Barbourville, Kentucky-  Entering the game, Union College had posted an impressive 9-4-2 record on the season, while Covenant, in their own right, had built an almost identical 8-4-2 record.  So, when the two former conference foes met at Bulldog Field on Tuesday, it appeared that all the pieces for a closely contested game had fallen into place.  And indeed it was so for a large majority of the game, as the Scots never found themselves more than a goal ahead of their opposition, although the run of play and the shot count (24-11 in Covenant's favor) seemed to show that the game wasn't quite as close as the score suggested.  Either way, the Scots needed to rely on goals from Julian Allgeier and

Brian Stair to usurp Union on their way to an improved 9-4-2 season record.  Allgeier's goal arrived after he was able to turn a defender and score in the 29th minute following a headed pass from Tyler Morrison.  However, the lead gained by this goal was short lived, as just a minute later Union's Jonathan Sutton rocketed home a 30 yard blast to level matters at 1-1.  The score would stay this way until the 70th minute, when Colby Robbin's shot was guided in by junior forward Brian Stair.  The Scots did well to hold onto the 2-1 lead, and it was enough to see them to victory on the afternoon.  "This win was good in that everyone who made the trip got to play, and we were able to come away with a win against a team who's been having a pretty good year," said coach Nathan Pifer after the game.  The game marked the Scots' final road game of the regular season, as they will play Saturday at home in their regular season finale against Berry College.
