Robbins Strikes Twice as Covenant Downs Montreat 3-0

Lookout Mountain, GA-  Before last weekend's game against Asbury college, in which he netted the first two goals in a 6-1 victory, freshman midfielder Colby Robbins had been struggling to get his name on the score sheet.  But, after scoring two in Covenant's 3-0 victory over Montreat College, any lingering doubts that Robbins can't score seem to have evaporated.  "It feels good to score, especially against a team like Montreat," said Robbins, "We've been scoring some good goals as a team and I'm happy to be a part of it."  Indeed, Robbins played a large part in the action on Saturday, opening the scoring in the 25th minute after David Pifer's 80-yard run set him up to slide the ball past goalkeeper Howard Fisher for the 1-0 Covenant advantage.  Some 20 minutes later, another player in fine goalscoring form, Brian Stair, took a Tyler Morrison pass and slotted home his sixth goal of the season.  At the break, the score stood at 2-0 in Covenant's favor, with goalkeeper John Eger and the rest of the defense having fought hard to keep the talented Montreat offense at bay.  As the second half picked up, the Scots continued to find success, with Robbins firing home a deflected Julian Allgeier shot in the 67th minute to complete his double and erase any doubt that Covenant would come away with anything less than a win.  The defensive backline of Ben Wagner, Hunt Davidson, Scott Schindler, and Jackson Slagle continued to impose their will on the Montreat attackers, allowing them little room in attack, and clearing away the danger in front of goal.  As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Covenant found themselves with their second consecutive win, and an improved 7-4-2 record.  The game also marked a "sweep" of sorts for Coach Nathan Pifer, as he now has two wins on the season against two teams (King and Montreat) where he was formerly coach.  In their next match, the Scots will seek their third straight victory as they host Piedmont College on Wednesday at 4:00.
