BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- The Covenant men's golf team opened the spring season with a 314 in the first round of the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational at the Brunswick Country Club.
Covenant had three players shoot 77 or better, led by Nathan Hawkins' 73. The Scots carded a 314 as a team and sit in ninth place overall in the 16-team field. Host Coastal Georgia leads the field with a 289 entering the final round on Tuesday.
Hawkins was his usual consistent self in the opening round. The senior shot a 37 on the front nine and tallied a pair of birdies on the back nine to finish the day with a 73 and he currently is 12th overall in the tournament.
Crawford Collett had a team-best five birdies in the round and ended the first round with a 75. Will DeMersseman opened the tournament with a 77, while John Livingston rounded out the top-four for the Scots with an 89.
Dawson Peters of USC-Beaufort is the clubhouse leader after he carded a 6-under, 66 on Monday.
Covenant will tee off in the final round of the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational on Tuesday morning.
