COHUTTA, Ga. -- Nathan Hawkins placed second overall and the Covenant men's golf team capped the fall season with its best two rounds of the year at the Eagle Invitational held at Nob North Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Covenant placed in a tie for fourth in the field of 11 teams, but just three shots off the lead. The Scots shot a 310 on Monday and followed that up with a 303 in Tuesday's final round.
Hawkins paced the Scots once again as he finished second in a field of 80 golfers with a 36-hole score of 146 (74-72). The senior shot a 74 in the opening round and then produced an even-par, 72 on Tuesday to move up to second. Hawkins finished two strokes behind tournament champion Rafael Beirana of Indiana U-East.
Will DeMersseman also had a strong finish to the fall season as he placed in a tie for 12th with a two-day score of 152 as he shot a 74 in the first round and ended the tournament with a 78 on Tuesday. John Livingston shot a season-best 75 in the final round and wrapped up the tournament with a 156 (81-75) to place 29th overall.
Isaac Duncan shot a career-best 81 in the first round and followed that up with an 82 on Tuesday to finish at 163 for the event. Crawford Collett rebounded in the final round on Tuesday with a 78 to finish the tournament at 164 (86-78).
Bethel (Tenn.), Cleveland State CC, and Indiana U-East all tied for the team title honors with a 610.
Covenant will open the spring season on Feb. 10-11 at the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational, hosted at the Brunswick Country Club in Brunswick, Ga.
