CLARKESVILLE, Ga. -- The Covenant men's golf team sits in eighth place after the opening round of the Piedmont Fall Invitational, hosted by Piedmont at the Orchard Golf & Country Club in Clarkesville.
Covenant shot a 324 as a team at the par 72, 6,819-yard course on Monday. Piedmont leads the field after carding a 293 in the first round, while teammates Josh DeSain and Matthew Leeman of Piedmont are tied for the clubhouse lead after each shooting a 70.
Nathan Hawkins led Covenant with a 79 in the opening round and is tied for 21st overall individually. Crawford Collett came away with an 81 in the first round and Will DeMersseman carded an 82. Isaac Duncan also posted an 82 to round out the scores for the Scots in day one of the two-day tournament.
Covenant ranks one spot ahead of USA South foe Berea in the 11-team field heading into Tuesday's final round.
The final round of the Piedmont Fall Invitational is set to tee off on Tuesday morning.
