LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant men's golf team completed its season with a ninth place finish at the USA South Tournament, which concluded on Saturday at the Highland Country Club in LaGrange.
Covenant shot a 314 in the final round to finish the 54-hole tournament with a score of 934 (313-307-314). Huntingdon, ranked No. 2 in the country, won the tournament as the Hawks ran away with it posting a team score of 23-under, 841 (277-279-285). Huntingdon's Drew Mathers took medalist honors with an 11-under, 205 (67-69-69).
Josh Wall posted the lowest score of the final round for the Scots with a 73 and the senior finished his collegiate career with a 231 (79-79-73) for the tournament to place 34th. Nathan Hawkins was the top Scot in the tournament as he placed in a tie for 26th overall with a 228 (76-73-79). It is the second straight year that Hawkins has finished 26th in the USA South Tournament.
Will DeMersseman placed in a tie for 39th in the field after shooting an 80 in all three rounds. Marshall Kent wrapped up the tournament with a 243 (78-79-86), while James Mitchell was also at 243 (85-76-82) for the tournament.
The tournament ends the most successful season in the NCAA era for the Scots. Covenant set a program record for scoring average at 306.65, while also cracking the top-70 in GolfStat rankings during the season for the first time.
