BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- The Covenant men's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Monday by shooting a 307, led by Crawford Collett and Marshall Kent, in the first round of the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational.
The Scots sit eighth out of 14 teams at the event, held at the par-72, 6821 yard Brunswick Country Club. The Scots are one stroke behind Blue Mountain for seventh in the NAIA-heavy field.
All five Covenant golfers in the event shot below 80 in the first round. Making his collegiate debut, Collett carded a 76 in the opening round and is tied for 27th overall. Kent also shot a 76 on the course to help lead the Scots for the day. Nathan Hawkins is tied for 38th after his first round score of 77, while Will DeMersseman shot a 78. Josh Wall rounded the Scots with a 79.
Tournament host Coastal Georgia is in the lead after a 6-under par, 282 on Monday with St. Thomas (Fla.) at second after a 292. Coastal Georgia's Jackson Lawlor is the clubhouse leader after a 4-under, 68.
Covenant will conclude the tournament on Tuesday.
