ROME, Ga. -- Led by a final round 75 from senior Josh Wall, the Covenant men's golf team placed 10th at the Chick-fil-A Invitational as play concluded on Tuesday at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome.
As a team, the Scots shot a 309 in the final round to finish the tournament with a two-day score of 612 (303-309). Central Alabama claimed the team title with a 575 (286-289), while host Berry was second at 585 (291-294). Covenant placed one spot better than USA South foe Piedmont (11th) and also bested top-50 ranked teams in Augsburg and York (Pa.).
Discounting secondary teams that competed in the tournament field for rankings purposes, the Scots were sixth among 13 teams.
Wall paced the Scots on Tuesday with his 75 and finished with a 36-hole score of 155 (80-75). The senior carded three birdies on his back nine and was 1-under over the final nine holes of play to place in a tie for 44th overall. Will DeMersseman was the top Covenant finisher in the tournament as he posted a second straight 77 to place in a tie for 39th at 154 (77-77).
Nathan Hawkins also placed 44th for the Scots as he shot a final round 80 to finish with a 155 (75-80). Marshall Kent posted an 85, but finished at a 156 (71-85) for the event. Will Mayfield improved his score by nine strokes in the second round and shot a 77 on Tuesday to finish with a 163 (86-77).
Reed Love of Central Alabama shot a 68 in the final round and took home medalist honors with a two-day score of 139 (71-68).
Covenant will complete the fall season at the Maryville Fall Invitational on Oct. 29-30. The tournament will take place at the Egwani Farms in Rockford, Tenn.
