CLARKESVILLE, Ga. -- Marshall Kent tied a career-best round with a 2-under, 70 and finished in a tie for second to lead the Covenant men's golf team to a fourth place finish at the 13th annual Piedmont Fall Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at The Orchard Golf & Country Club.
Covenant shot a 307 as a team in the final round, three strokes better than Monday's opening round, to place fourth in the 10-team field. For the tournament, the Scots posted a 617 (310-307). Methodist, the defending national champions, won the event with a two-day score of 589 (294-295), while Piedmont was second at 606 (297-309).
Kent continued to tear up the Orchard course, a place that the senior has had success throughout his career. Kent carded four birdies on the day and finished with a 2-under, 70 to tie his career-low round and finish in a tie for second. Kent was three shots back of medalist Lucas Spahl of Methodist. Kent's two-day score of 144 (74-70) set a personal best in a 36-hole tournament.
Kent earned all-tournament honors with his finish for a third time in the event as the senior placed sixth as a freshman in 2015 and second in the same tournament in 2016. It was also his sixth career top 10 finish.
Will Mayfield also joined Kent in the top 10 in the tournament. Mayfield shot a 76 for a second consecutive day to finish in a tie for ninth overall and his tournament score of 152 (76-76) was a career best.
Nathan Hawkins carded a second straight 80 to finish at 160 (80-80) for the tournament and he placed 31st. Josh Wall shot an 81 on Tuesday and finished at 161 (81-80), while James Mitchell had an 82 in the final round, a three-stroke improvement on his first round score.
Covenant will host the Reeder Cup on Oct. 15-16 at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club.
