LAGRANGE, Ga. -- Covenant sophomore golfer Nathan Hawkins wrapped up USA South Tournament play with a 79 in Saturday's final round at the Highland Country Club in LaGrange.
North Carolina Wesleyan took home both the team and individual title. As a team, the Battling Bishops overcame an 11-stroke deficit on the final day to win the championship over No. 3-ranked Methodist. Meanwhile, N.C. Wesleyan's Grady Anderson was the medalist after finishing with a 73 on Saturday. Anderson ended the tournament with a 2-under, 214.
Hawkins carded a 79 in the final round to place in a tie for 26th overall. The sophomore was even-par on the day through nine holes as he birdied the par-5, third hole and the par-5, seventh hole on the front nine. Most players in the tournament struggled over the back nine at Highland and Hawkins' round on Saturday finished with a 43 over the final nine holes.
Hawkins ended the tournament with a 233 (77-77-79). He was second among the individuals that qualified for the event as William Peace's Tray Capps was tied for 20th at 228 (76-78-74) and Berea's Kevin Kim was 42nd with a 54-hole score of 243 (86-78-79).
