MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- It is every golfer's dream to hit a hole-in-one, but Covenant junior Marshall Kent got to live out that experience first-hand on Monday.
Kent's ace on his second hole of the day highlighted the first round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Monday at the Wynlakes Golf & Country Club in Montgomery.
Kent became the first Covenant player in program history to record a hole-in-one in competition. The junior knocked in the shot on the par 3, 11th hole from just over 200 yards away.
Covenant shot a 336 as a team in the opening round and sits in 16th in a field that features 11 of the top-50 ranked teams in Division III, according to the latest GolfStat rankings. Host, and USA South foe, Huntingdon leads the field after posting a 295 in the opening round. Emory's Stefano Butti is the clubhouse leader following his 3-under, 69 on Monday.
Kent's hole-in-one was a bright spot for the Scots. Kent finished the round with an 88, but was 2-under through the first five holes of the day. Nathan Hawkins carded a 79 to lead the way for Covenant. Hawkins recovered nicely from a tough start to the day as he went even-par over the final nine holes, including a birdie on the par 4, sixth hole, and is in 42nd heading into the final round.
The final round of the tournament will start on Tuesday morning. Live results of the tournament can be found here
