COHUTTA, Ga. -- The Covenant men's golf team capped its fall schedule on Tuesday by finishing second in the Eagle Invitational, hosted by Alice Lloyd, at Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta.
The Scots fought through tough conditions that saw all teams in the field shoot worse in Tuesday's final round than in the first round on Monday. Covenant carded a 331 as a team to keep its second place status after posting a 310 in the first round. Bob Jones took home the team title after shooting a two-day score of 625 (300-325), while Alice Lloyd was third and Johnson (Tenn.) fourth.
Nathan Hawkins was the top finisher for the Scots as he placed fifth in the event after posting a 78 on Tuesday to lead the team. Combined with his first round score, Hawkins shot a 157 (79-78) for the tournament. Bob Jones' Kyle Olenchuk was the medalist with a two-day score of 152 (74-78).
Marshall Kent also finished in the top 10 as he placed seventh after an 87 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at 161 (74-87). Josh Wall was eighth overall with a 162 (79-83) and Will Mayfield moved up to 12th in the tournament after a second straight 83 on Tuesday. Matthew Harvie rounded out the Scots golfers with his 13th place finish at 167 (78-89).
Covenant will be off until the spring season in February. The Scots travel to St. Simons Island, Ga., on Feb. 12-13 to take part in the annual Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational at Sea Island Retreat Course.
