CLARKESVILLE, Ga. -- Led by All-Tournament honoree Marshall Kent, the Covenant men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2016-17 season by placing fifth in the 11th annual Piedmont College Fall Invitational at The Orchard Golf & Country Club.
Kent placed in a tie for second overall in the event with a two-day score of 147 after posting a 77 in Tuesday's final round. Kent's finish earned him a spot on the Invitational's All-Tournament team for a second consecutive year. The 147 is a career-low for a 36-hole tournament for the sophomore.
Sewanee took home both team and individual titles. As a team, the Tigers shot a 300 on day two after scoring a 294 on Monday for a 594. Tommy Oliver was the individual champion as he finished with an even-par 144 (69-75) for the tournament.
After scoring a 310 as a team on Monday, Covenant had a score of 323 on Tuesday to finish at 633. Bob Jones placed second overall, while Piedmont and Truett-McConnell finished in a tie for third.
Nathan Hawkins finished in a tie for 19th in the event with his tournament score of 159 after an 82 on Tuesday. Alan Craig carded an 84 in the final round to place 27th at 163. Will Mayfield took six strokes off his first round performance to finish with an 80 on Tuesday and a 166 for the tournament. Will Reid posted an 84 in the final round for a 168 in the event.
Covenant will compete in the Ted Keller Memorial on Oct. 10-11 in Ashland, Va., hosted by Randolph-Macon.
