Golf Finishes Strong at The Buccaneer

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- After a tough first two rounds on Monday, the Covenant men's golf team picked up steam and moved up the leaderboard in Tuesday's final round of The Buccaneer hosted by Christian Brothers University.

The Scots shot a 312 in the final round and moved up three spots on the team leaderboard for a sixth place finish. Covenant finished the tournament with a team score of 973, six shots better than seventh place Illinois College. NCAA Division II member Delta State won the event with a three-round score of 844.

Alan Craig and Jeron Pasma each shot 75s on Tuesday, while Marshall Kent posted an 80 and Ian Johnson an 82. Craig ended the tournament in 29th place overall after carding a three-day score of 236 (81-80-75). Kent finished in a tie for 31st with a tournament total of 240 (81-79-80) and Pasma was 38th overall at 245 (89-81-75).

Covenant saw improvement with each round. Monday featured the first two rounds of the event and the Scots posted a 334. In the second round later on Monday, the Scots trimmed seven strokes for a 327 before shaving 15 more for Tuesday's 312.

Josh Wall (257--83-87-87) and Johnson (275--94-99-82) were the other two Covenant golfers in the field, while Jonathan Rhodes competed as an individual.

Delta State's Alex Clark won the event with a 12-under par 198 for the tournament. Clark carded a pair of 67s on Monday and finished the event with a 64 on Tuesday.

On the women's side, Covenant's Maggie Mauze and Ellie Blauw competed as individuals. Mauze finished in 18th, while Blauw was 21st.


Covenant will play in the Chick-fil-A Invitational beginning on Monday, Oct. 19 in Rome, Ga. The women's event will take place on Oct. 26-27 in Rome, Ga.
