WALESKA, Ga. -- The Covenant men's golf team opened up the spring portion of its schedule at the Reinhardt Spring Invitational, held in Waleska, Ga., on Monday and Tuesday. The Scots improved their score by 15 strokes on the final day of the tournament to finish in fifth place, out of seven teams.
Lindsey Wilson took the team title and the top medalist. LWC's Frank Medale shot a 147 (73-74) to earn the top individual spot while the team shot a 596. Covenant, the only Division III team in the NAIA-dominated field, posted a team score of 641 (328-313).
Alan Craig carded the low score for the Scots in round one with a 79. The freshman posted an 81 in the final round for a two-day total of 160 which was good enough for 23rd individually.
James Van Nice was five strokes better in the final round for Covenant's low in day two of 76. Van Nice had four birdies in the opening round, but finished the day with an 81. Van Nice finished in a tie for 17th.
Scott McKnight scored a 161 by shooting an 82 on the first day followed by a 79 in day two. Freshman Nate Haney showed the largest improvement for Covenant by shooting a 77 in day two after an 86 in round one. Nick Blauw shot a 175 for the tournament.
Covenant will be back on the course on Saturday, March 22 for a one-day event at Bryan College before heading to Montgomery, Ala., to compete with several other USA South schools in the Wynlakes Intercollegiate Invitational (March 24-25).
