Tough Day for Men's Golf at NCCAAs

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- It was a tough day all around for the Covenant men's golf team in the opening round of the NCCAA Men's Golf National Championships on Monday at The Hombre Golf Club. James Van Nice shot a 77 to lead the Scots but the team suffered through a 325 to sit in 18th.

Dallas Baptist, ranked 34th in NCAA Division II, leads the tournament after a round one score of 284. Zach Moore of Southern Wesleyan is the clubhouse leader as he posted a 5-under 67.

Van Nice is in a tie for 50th individually. The sophomore, coming off a third place finish at the Maryville Invitational over the weekend, was at even-par through his front nine but struggled on the back.

Scott McKnight carded an 81, Nate Haney an 82, Cameron Lewis an 85 and Alan Craig rounded out the Covenant golfers with an 87 on the first day.

The Scots will look to get back on track in the tournament's second round beginning on Tuesday morning. Live stats of the tournament can be found here
