ALCOA, Tenn. -- Despite tough playing conditions, the Covenant men's golf team persevered to finish in second place, out of six teams, at the Maryville College Invitational at Green Meadow Country Club in Alcoa on Saturday.
James Van Nice tied for the low round of the day with a 72 to lead the Scots to their finish. Van Nice placed third individually in the tournament with a two-day score of 150. As a team, Covenant shot a 316. Tennessee Wesleyan captured the top spot.
"It was very windy and cold on the course today," said head coach David Conrady. "The course was playing completely different than it did on Friday."
Covenant posted a 303 on Friday, but the weather conditions worsened on Saturday making the round tougher for all teams.
Covenant will head to Panama City Beach, Fla., on Sunday to begin preparations for the NCCAA Men's Golf Championships which start on Monday.
