LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- For a second straight year, Covenant men's basketball senior forward Will Crumly is a preseason All-American. Crumly was recently selected to the Basketball Times Preseason All-America team by the publication.
Basketball Times is the official publication of the United States Basketball Writers Association and has been around for over 30 years. Crumly was one of 25 Division III players selected to the preseason list. More info can be found here.
Crumly, a 6-foot-9 forward from Marietta, Ga., is the back-to-back USA South Player of the Year award recipient. He was an NABC All-America third team selection following his sophomore year in 2018-19. Last year, he led the team in scoring (17.2 points per game) and rebounding (8.6 rebounds per game) to go along with leading the USA South in field goals made (182) and ranking second in total rebounds (233).
In his first three years, Crumly accumulated 1,320 career points -- currently 12th in program history -- and 576 career rebounds. He became the fastest player in the program's NCAA era to reach 1,000 career points (63 games). Crumly has 19 career double-doubles, including 10 in his sophomore year, which is the most for any Scot since 2003-04. He has also collected 62 career games with double-digit points and 28 career 20-plus point efforts.
Crumly is a two-time NABC All-District South first team selection and a two-time D3hoops.com All-South Region choice. Prior to last season, Crumly was named as a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American and later in the year was a Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List honoree.
Crumly's play has led Covenant to back-to-back USA South West Division regular season titles. During Crumly's career, which also spans head coach Neal Young's tenure at Covenant, the Scots lead the USA South with a 37-15 conference record.
Covenant is set to begin 2020-21 on Dec. 1 with an exhibition at Division I foe Samford. The regular season opener is slated for Dec. 5 at Faulkner.
