FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Following an impressive week, Covenant men's basketball sophomore Will Crumly has been named the USA South Player of the Week, for the period ending on Jan. 6, announced the league on Monday.
The honor is the first player of the week award in Crumly's career. It is also the first weekly honor garnered by a Covenant men's basketball player this year.
Crumly, a 6-foot-9 sophomore from Marietta, Ga., averaged a double-double of 28.5 points, while shooting 71.8 percent from the field, and 11.0 rebounds per game as the Scots posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 103-96 loss at Concordia (Texas), Crumly posted a double-double of 30 points and 11 rebounds. In an 87-66 victory over USA South foe Pfeiffer, Crumly notched a fifth straight double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds.
Over the last three games, Crumly is averaging 30 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest with double-doubles in all three games.
For the year, Crumly leads Covenant and is second in the USA South in scoring average at 22.2 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game. The sophomore has totaled seven double-doubles this year, the most for a Scot in a single-season since 2003-04. Crumly is shooting 59.2 percent from the floor, fourth-best in the conference.
Covenant (6-6, 5-0 USA South) will take its unbeaten conference record on the road to Berea on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
